Create and Sell
Crafters Edition: How to build your artistic presence on Instagram, attract your people and get sales + guide '91 ideas for Stories'
Step 1: Make your account memorable, presentable, easy to follow, and easy to buy from.
Online shopping typically proceeds as follows: You're in search of something—a new bag, a hairdresser, new shoes, or jewelry, etc. You start your search, and eventually, you find a design or a master that catches your eye. The quality seems good, but there are a few missing pieces of information that you need to clarify. You have to message to find out about turnaround times, shipping, delivery, materials used, and some reviews would be helpful too. Also, you have no idea who actually makes all those products.
Will you take the time to reach out and ask those questions, or will you postpone it indefinitely? Perhaps you'll even move on to your second choice.
And just like that, the sale is lost. This scenario plays out every day.
And that's your account and your sales you didn't get.
I'm sure you create content to showcase your products. Probably, you've even tried trendy reels you don't even like, just to reach more clients. Has it ever happened that your reel got a lot of views, but still no follows and no sales? If yes, it's likely because your account is missing important information. Maybe it's completely unclear if you actually sell or just create for fun. Perhaps you only post pictures of your products with "link in my bio" and “DM for price”. I'm sorry, but it doesn't work this way. You need to build a clear and easy-to-follow path that answers all the questions your clients may have.
That's what Chapter 1 is about: making your account memorable, legit, and very clear for new followers.
Also, we make sure that you save and cherish your authenticity so you would stand out among other crafting accounts. And also your account will be your happy and safe place and won’t feel like a burden to post and show up there.
Your account will be easy to follow, clear, and understandable, and people will enjoy buying from you.
First, we make it clear for your current followers, and prepare it for your future ones.
And then we will go to Step 2.
Step 2: What to post to attract people who love your vibe and are looking for products like yours - your ideal clients.
Step 3: What to post to reach people who share the same values as you and could become your clients.
Step 4. Build a deeper connection: Stories
There's something special about Stories. We often start following someone because we believe they can help us in some way. Maybe we're seeking a service or inspiration, and their page resonates with us. However, we truly engage with and remember someone when we feel a genuine interest and connection. Stories play a key role in bridging that gap and fostering a deeper connection with our audience. When we become real and authentic for someone, when we share our professionalism, values, interests, and even our vulnerabilities and failures, there's no longer a need for aggressive sales tactics. It's more akin to purchasing something you want or need from a trusted friend.
When it comes to Stories, we can categorize them into three main groups:
To assist you in creating engaging Stories, I've prepared a guide of Ideas for Stories. I personally use it and hope it proves helpful for you too.
The system I developed helped me stabilize my earnings and gradually increase my prices as the quality of my products improved over time.
I used to struggle trying to sell my bags for $125 and often heard that they were "way too expensive." You can imagine that considering the cost of materials, transaction fees, and shipping, I barely made any profit from my craft. It seemed impossible to sustain myself as a full-time artist. My mistake was attempting to compete with large retail stores and overseas marketplaces, which was clearly unattainable. I even tried to run sales, selling my products at extremely low prices, just to make some income.
Honestly, I was about to quit in 2019 and return to office work. However, I decided to try a different approach as my last leap of faith. Instead of competing, I focused on attracting clients by showcasing who I am and what I could create for them, valuing both their needs and my labor. And you know what? It worked. In 2020, I relocated to San Francisco and have been making a living solely from my craft ever since. The system I developed helped me stabilize my earnings and gradually increase my prices as the quality of my products improved over time.
I wasn't ready to share it for a long time because I wanted to be sure it wasn't just a stroke of luck, but something that truly works. It does work, so I'm happy to share it now.
